Metaphysical Metaphors

This thread is for me to record and think about metaphysical metaphors. For example, Ephesians 5 states that marriage is a metaphor for Christ and the church.

Marriage:
Sleep:
Awaking:
Parent/child relationship:

Marriage:
I will begin with marriage because it is one of the most explicite metaphors given to us. We not only have a philosophical reasoning about marriage, but also a theological. The Apostle Paul, in Ephesians 5, states that marriage is a metaphor for Christ and the Church. Everytime two people are married, our moral imaginations are furnished and shaped with a picture of Christ and the Church. That is the theological part. Let us philosophize implications. Any time a marriage is disolved (regardless of one's view on innocent parties, etc.), the fact is divorce occurs. Any time divorce occurs the image is marred. Thus, the moral imagination is damaged. Whenever we hear of a divorce, it should pain us greatly because it rubs against the fabric of the universe. It is contrary to our nature. It should be contrary to our moral imaginations.
